The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged Nigerians to pray for peace and unity as the 2027 general elections approach, emphasizing that national stability is key to good governance.
He also called on stakeholders to work towards a credible, free, fair, and transparent election.
In his Eid-el-Fitr message, the Sultan wished Muslims a peaceful and prosperous celebration, reminding them to reflect on their actions and sustain the virtues imbibed during Ramadan.
He also encouraged Muslims to observe the six-day voluntary fast in Shawwal, as recommended by Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
On global affairs, the Sultan appealed to world leaders to de-escalate ongoing conflicts, particularly tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, warning that prolonged conflicts could disrupt the global food chain and worsen economic conditions, especially for developing countries like Nigeria.
