Who We Are
The Northern Star is a media and blog platform dedicated to educating, entertaining and enlightening people across northern Nigeria and beyond. Founded with a vision of fostering positive change, unity and development, we serve as a guiding light for stories, culture and conversations that matter.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to use the written word, storytelling and information as tools for transformation—empowering individuals, strengthening communities and building bridges across our diverse region.
OUR MISSION
There is no gainsaying that online publication can be terrible at times. Yes, causing havoc and confusion in the society. This is where the information being sent out turned out to be fake or misleading. It therefore caused crisis, and in most cases destroyed the foundation of that society.
However, the coming of online publication has made information accessible to the people. It equally made the entire world a global village, as information spreads faster and in some cases, has assisted greatly in saving lives. For example, some armed bandits operating along a major highway, can only be easily exposed through the social media. This will go a long way in assisting those passing through the road to take precautionary measures, so as not to fall into the hands of the undesirable elements.
Indeed, both the government and those in business are taking advantage of the advent of the social media to publicize their activities. Government in particular has used the social media to enhance its image. That’s why they appoint professionals as advisers on new media.
It is in such a critical period that we are coming on board, to float an online medium, The Northern Star. In fact, we are coming out, at a time the country is confronted with numerous challenges. The Northern Nigeria in particular, is at a crossroads, following the activities of armed bandits, who deny our farmers access to their farms, thereby making life unbearable for them, and other millions of people who depend on them for survival. Equally, thousands of innocent lives have been lost, even as government and security agents seem to be helpless in tackling the ugly trend.
Our Mission therefore, is to contribute meaningfully in assisting our people to excel, through adequate and reliable information, without any form of bias. We pledge to unite the people of Northern Nigeria in particular, and the entire country in general, through accurate information, as well as mobilize them for development. Also, we are irrevocably committed to investigative journalism, so as to bring out the ills in the society, even as we are equally committed to developmental journalism, to enhance the progress of our various communities. This is our mission, and it’s our prayer that Allah the Most High will assist us to succeed.
