The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has uncovered new details surrounding the death of a man whose body was found under Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway, Abuja.
The discovery had initially sparked speculation of a possible kidnapping or robbery following reports of the alleged disappearance of a woman identified as Rukayat Muhammed. However, the police said preliminary investigations have established a different chain of events.
According to the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, investigators traced the deceased’s missing mobile phone and linked his last known communication to Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2. Police said further investigation revealed that Rukayat was allegedly in a relationship with the deceased and had saved his contact as “Safiyat” on her phone.
The Command said the deceased and Rukayat had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House, Second Avenue, Gwarimpa, where the man reportedly became unresponsive and later died.
Police alleged that Rukayat left the guest house with the deceased’s phone without immediately reporting the incident, while two members of the guest house staff, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body and transported it to the Katampe area, where it was abandoned.
The police said the exact cause and circumstances of the man’s death have yet to be established, stressing that investigations and forensic procedures are ongoing.
The Command urged members of the public to avoid drawing conclusions from unverified reports or social media speculation, saying further investigation would determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
