Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has directed all 23 local government chairmen to relocate to their respective areas to improve governance and remain closer to the people. This decision aims to bring leadership closer to the grassroots and ensure leaders understand the real challenges facing their communities. ¹ ² ³
Governor Aliyu emphasized that chairmen residing in the state capital while administering their local governments must stop, as it creates a disconnect from local realities. He urged the chairmen to be more active and directly involved in running their councils to improve service delivery and accelerate development.
The state government plans to either recover existing official residences or construct new ones in all 23 local government areas to support this move. The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has assured the governor of their commitment to support the administration’s development agenda.
