Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has been released from detention and returned home to attend his mother Hajiya Umma El-Rufai’s funeral.
His son, Bashir El-Rufai, confirmed the news on social media, describing his father’s detention as “unlawful and illegal” and criticizing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai was detained on February 18, 2026, over alleged corruption and money laundering charges. His release comes after his family and supporters called for his immediate release, citing his mother’s deteriorating health and subsequent passing.
