Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has been in talks with Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the APC’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, sparking speculation about a possible alliance ahead of the 2027 elections. Kwankwaso praised Gawuna, describing him as “one of the esteemed commissioners” and highlighting his integrity and respectfulness.
This development has caused anxiety within the APC, with some members fearing Gawuna’s potential defection to the Kwankwasiyya movement could impact their chances in the 2027 elections. Gawuna, who polled over 800,000 votes in the 2023 governorship race, is seen as a strong contender who could challenge incumbent Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Kwankwaso’s alignment with Gawuna is reportedly part of his strategy to strengthen his position ahead of the 2027 elections. However, talks between Kwankwaso and President Bola Tinubu about a possible defection to the APC have reportedly stalled due to disagreements over Kwankwaso’s demands, including the vice-presidential slot. President Tinubu has directed APC leaders to persuade Gawuna to stay, offering him an automatic ticket for the Kano Central Senatorial seat in 2027. However, Gawuna has reported yesterday gone in to hiding pla in his phone on ‘Do Not Disturb ‘ mode to avoid pressure.
Would you like to know more about the implications of Kwankwaso’s alignment with Gawuna or the status of his talks with President Tinubu?
