Nasiru Gawuna, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
In a letter dated March 27, 2026, Gawuna cited compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees to step down ahead of the 2027 general elections as the reason for his resignation.
Gawuna, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State and APC governorship candidate, expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as a privilege.
He assured a smooth transition, handing over responsibilities in line with established procedures. Gawuna’s resignation comes amid speculation that he will join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who recently resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
