The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed why it deregistered David Mark’s party, reportedly backed by prominent politicians Atiku Abubakar and Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
The deregistration is likely due to the party’s failure to meet electoral requirements or submit necessary documents .
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has withdrawn recognition of the David Mark-led African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction, citing a Court of Appeal ruling.
This decision follows a leadership dispute between Mark and Nafiu Bala Gombe, with both factions claiming legitimacy. INEC will no longer accept communications from either group and has removed Mark’s name from its portal.
The ADC has rejected INEC’s interpretation, accusing the commission of yielding to government pressure. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that INEC’s press release is “full of contradictions” and vowed to clarify the situation.
The dispute stems from a July 2025 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting where Mark’s caretaker committee was appointed, sparking controversy. Gombe approached the court, arguing he should assume leadership following the resignation of Ralph Nwosu.
