A public affairs commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has dismissed claims about the proposed Kano Metropolitan Rail Project, describing the announcement as a political deception.
Shehu made the allegation in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, where he argued that the rail project does not exist in any official government plan.
According to him, there is no provision for the project in the 2026 budget proposals, stressing that no memo has been submitted to the Federal Executive Council for consideration.
He also claimed that there is no design, contractor or consultant attached to the project, insisting that the announcement was meant to mislead residents of Kano State.
“This is pure deception. There is no such provision in the 2026 budgetary proposals. No memo has been presented to the FEC for deliberation. There is no design on the ground, no contractor and no consultant,” he wrote.
Shehu’s reaction followed an earlier announcement by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, who stated that the Federal Government had approved a ₦1tn Metropolitan Rail Service for the state.
The development comes amid ongoing public reactions to Governor Yusuf’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress, a move that has continued to generate debate both within Kano State and across the country.
