The Federal Government has declared Thursday, 19 March, and Friday, 20 March 2026, as public holidays to mark Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival that brings the holy month of Ramadan to a close.
Announcing the decision on behalf of the government, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extended warm congratulations to Muslims across the country for successfully completing the month-long fast.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged the faithful not to lose sight of the values cultivated during Ramadan.
He encouraged Nigerians to continue to embrace compassion, generosity, tolerance and sacrifice in their daily lives.
He also called on citizens of all faiths to use the festive period as an opportunity to pray for peace, unity and sustained progress in the country.
While wishing Muslims a joyful and fulfilling Eid celebration, the minister appealed to Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and remember those in need by extending acts of kindness and support.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting unity and ensuring peaceful coexistence among the nation’s diverse communities.
