Senator Ibrahim Lamido, representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing escalating insecurity and deepening hardship in his constituency.
The lawmaker announced his decision on his official X platform, stating that the resignation takes immediate effect.
He explained that the move was prompted by what he described as the party’s inability to adequately safeguard the lives and livelihoods of his constituents.
Lamido raised alarm over the surge in bandit attacks across Sokoto East, noting that several communities have been devastated, with villages destroyed, residents displaced, and economic activities crippled.
He lamented that repeated calls for urgent intervention have yielded little or no tangible results.
Emphasising that his decision was not politically motivated, the senator said it was driven by the need to align with the concerns of his people during a period of severe crisis.
He added that extensive consultations with community leaders and political allies informed his decision to exit the APC.
Although he did not disclose his next political move, Lamido hinted at joining a platform that places priority on security and grassroots development.
He also urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts in tackling banditry, warning that continued inaction could further worsen the humanitarian situation in northern Nigeria.
