The Bayero University Kano has announced the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega, wife of former Vice-Chancellor of the institution and ex-Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega.
In a statement released on Sunday via its official social media channels, the university expressed deep sorrow over her death, saying, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega.”
The institution disclosed that her Janazah (funeral prayer) would take place shortly after the Zuhr prayer at the National Mosque Abuja on Sunday, 5 April 2026.
Offering prayers for the deceased, the university asked Allah to grant her Aljannatul Firdaus and forgive her shortcomings, while also praying for strength and patience for her family in this time of grief.
Speaking in a telephone interview, the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, confirmed the development. He described her passing as a sad loss, adding that she would be laid to rest in Abuja.
“May the Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings,” he said.
The news has drawn condolences from members of the academic community and beyond, as family, friends and associates mourn the loss of a beloved wife and mother.
