The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying search-and-rescue operations until all students abducted in recent incidents across Niger, Kebbi, and Zamfara States are safely recovered.
According to a military source at the Defence Headquarters who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), troops under Operation Fansan Yamma have sustained aggressive operations that have resulted in the elimination of several terrorists and the destruction of their hideouts across parts of the North-Central and North-West within the last 24 hours.
The source explained that troops of the 22 Brigade launched the ongoing operation following the abduction of students of St Mary’s School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State. Surveillance aircraft (ISR) and ground search teams were immediately deployed to track the attackers.
The search area, the source added, has since been expanded to the Audu Fari axis in Borgu Local Government Area.
In Mariga, troops of FOB Gulbin Boka carried out a successful ambush near Magaman Daji, killing several terrorists and recovering four motorcycles used for criminal activities.
In Kebbi State, troops involved in the efforts to rescue the students of GGSS Maga, abducted on November 17, launched a major offensive in the Gando/Sunke forests of Kebbi and the Talata Mafara axis of Zamfara State.
The military source confirmed that three terrorist camps were destroyed during the operations, forcing the criminals to flee. Troops also recovered a passport belonging to a woman from Bagega, believed to have been lost within the forested area.
The Nigerian Army assured that operations will continue relentlessly until all abducted students are rescued and the terror networks operating across the North-Central and North-West regions are dismantled.
