“Bishop Kukah Shocks Nation: ‘Stop Lying! No Data Supports Claims of Christian Genocide in Nigeria’”
In a fiery address that has triggered shockwaves across religious and political circles, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese and Convener of the National Peace Committee, Most Rev. Matthew Kukah, has declared that Nigeria is NOT facing a Christian genocide, dismissing widely circulated statistics as fabricated, exaggerated and completely unsupported by credible evidence.
Speaking at the 46th Supreme Convention of the Knights of St. Mulumba in Kaduna, Kukah took direct aim at groups and individuals pushing the genocide narrative, describing their claims as “dangerously misleading” and lacking any form of verifiable data.
According to him, assertions that 1,200 churches are burnt in Nigeria every year are nothing but fiction.
They are saying that 1,200 churches are burnt in Nigeria every year, and I ask myself—in which Nigeria? Nobody approached the Catholic Church for accurate data. We don’t even know where these figures came from,” Kukah said, visibly stunned.
The outspoken cleric added that his stance is fully aligned with that of the Vatican Secretary of State, the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, and all Catholic bishops across the country—none of whom recognize any ongoing Christian genocide in Nigeria.
He further criticized those pushing the persecution narrative without consulting credible authorities:
“All those talking about persecution—has anyone ever called to ask, ‘Bishop Kukah, what is the situation?’ They cleverly avoid the Catholic Church because they know we do not indulge in hearsay.”
