Diezani Alison-Madueke, Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources, is currently facing trial in the UK for allegedly accepting bribes and living a life of luxury abroad.
Prosecutors claim she accepted over £100,000 in cash, luxury goods, and high-end properties from individuals seeking contracts with Nigerian state-owned companies between 2011 and 2015 .
The alleged benefits include:
- Luxury Properties: Use of high-end properties in London, including a mansion in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, and flats in central London
- Private Jet Flights: Multiple flights to Nigeria and other destinations
- Chauffeur-Driven Cars: Luxury vehicles at her disposal
- Shopping Spree: Over £2 million spent at Harrods and Louis Vuitton
- School Fees: Payment of her son’s school fees
Alison-Madueke, who served as Nigeria’s oil minister from 2010 to 2015 and briefly as OPEC president, denies the charges.
Her trial is expected to last several weeks and could result in up to 10 years in prison if convicted .
