Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-styled Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has been arrested. His arrest follows a warrant issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Adeyemi’s arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the fake agency, which was reportedly created in 2024. The PFIPC had allegedly operated with over 300 staff and had secured office space at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.
The Presidency had earlier distanced itself from the PFIPC, stating that it was not a recognized government agency. Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila denied knowledge of the agency and threatened to sue Adeyemi for defamation.
Adeyemi had claimed that he was appointed by Gbajabiamila and that the agency’s budget was included in the 2026 Appropriation Bill. However, the government has described the agency as fake and warned the public to be cautious.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has been investigating the matter, and Adeyemi is expected to face charges.
The arrest of Adeyemi has sparked debate about accountability and transparency in government.
