SOKOTO, Nigeria — Former Sokoto State Governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has expressed confidence that the APC will bounce back strongly in the 2027 general elections, despite criticisms and concerns over the current state of the country.
Wamakko stated this while speaking with RFI Hausa Radio, monitored in Kano, where he addressed issues surrounding the performance of the APC-led Federal Government, insecurity and the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former governor said the challenges posed by banditry and other forms of insecurity would soon be brought under control, urging Nigerians, particularly voters, to remain patient and continue to support efforts aimed at restoring peace across the country.
He maintained that the APC government was committed to continuity in governance, arguing that development policies and programmes required time to produce sustainable results.
According to him, continuity would enable governments to consolidate projects and reforms rather than abandoning them whenever there is a change in administration.
Wamakko also acknowledged that no government in power could escape criticism, saying it was normal for citizens to express dissatisfaction with policies and programmes that directly affected their lives.
He explained that public perception of government performance could differ depending on whether individuals benefited from particular projects or policies. “No matter how you work and execute development projects, those who benefit will smile, while those who do not benefit will always kick against it,” he said.
The APC chieftain therefore appealed to Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring them that the present difficulties would eventually give way to improved conditions.
He urged the electorate to exercise patience as the government continues to address the country’s economic and security challenges.
Wamakko expressed optimism that the APC would overcome its present challenges and regain strong public support before the 2027 elections, stressing that the party remained committed to its political structures and the principle of continuity.
He called on Nigerians to continue praying for the country and its leaders, expressing confidence that, by the grace of God, the security situation and other difficulties confronting the nation would soon change for the better.
