Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami has given the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, a two-day ultimatum to publish his name as PDP governorship candidate for Gombe State in 2027 election.
His lawyers led by Ahmed Raji, SAN, sent a petition to the commission on Monday, October 12, 2026, after Pantami’s name was omitted from the list of candidates INEC published on October 10.
The lawyers said Pantami won the fresh PDP primary held on September 29, after the Federal High Court in Gombe annulled the first primary and ordered the party to conduct a new one within 30 days.
They said INEC officials were present to monitor the new primary, and Pantami’s name was submitted to the commission as the party’s candidate.
According to the lawyers, removing his name without stating reason violates due process, and they demanded INEC to correct the error and inform them in writing of action taken.
As at the time of filing this report, INEC has not responded to the petition.
Pantami is seeking the PDP ticket to contest for governor of Gombe in the 2027 election.
The development comes amid INEC’s publication of governorship candidates list nationwide, where names of Pantami and Gwarzo were notably missing.
