Nigeria — Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has directed the State Ministry of Religious Affairs to establish a Department of Christian Affairs, to be headed by a Christian director.
The governor gave the directive as part of efforts to promote equity, fairness and inclusiveness among the various religious communities in the state.
The initiative is expected to provide an institutional platform for addressing issues affecting Christian faithful across Kebbi.
According to the governor, the creation of the department reflects his administration’s commitment to ensuring that all religious groups in the state receive fair treatment and have their concerns appropriately represented within government structures.
The proposed Department of Christian Affairs will be responsible for coordinating government relations with Christian organisations and communities, as well as facilitating communication on matters relating to their religious activities and welfare.
Governor Idris said his administration would continue to promote peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and understanding among residents irrespective of their religious backgrounds.
He stressed that fairness and equal treatment remained essential to sustaining peace and unity in Kebbi State.
The directive has been described as a significant step towards strengthening inclusiveness in the administration of religious affairs in the state, with the appointment of a Christian director expected to provide direct leadership for the new department.
