More than 150 people have been abducted by gunmen in a midnight attack on villages in Zamfara State’s Bukkuyum local government area.
The attack, which has left several villages displaced, has been confirmed by Hon Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, a federal lawmaker representing Gumi and Bukkuyum.
According to Gumi, the gunmen targeted the villages of Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji, leaving residents in a state of panic.
The lawmaker stated that the entire population of the affected villages has fled their homes and are now seeking refuge in Bukkuyum town.
Gumi emphasized that the region has long been plagued by banditry and kidnapping, with residents living in constant fear.
He appealed to the federal government to redirect its attention to addressing the security challenges in Zamfara State.
“There are signs that the government is currently focused on Borno due to the Boko Haram threat, but we urge them to also prioritize Zamfara’s security issues,” Gumi said.
The attack has sparked concerns about the safety of civilians in the region and the need for increased security measures to prevent such incidents.
