The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned one Dalhatu Yahaya before a Gombe State High Court over alleged involvement in a job scam.
Yahaya was brought before Justice A.M. Yakubu of High Court 2 in Gombe State on Thursday, May 21, 2026, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence.
According to the EFCC, the defendant allegedly defrauded one Abubakar Shuaibu Yakubu of the sum of N3.5 million, claiming he could secure employment for him with the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
The commission alleged that the representation was false and intended to deceive the complainant, an offence said to contravene the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006.
Yahaya, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel J.D. Tortema requested a trial date and asked the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility, while defence counsel Yusuf A. Ali informed the court of a pending bail application.
Justice Yakubu subsequently granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5 million with one surety in like sum.
The court ordered that the surety must own landed property worth N5 million, reside within Gombe State, and be of good standing, while also submitting original documents for verification.
The matter was adjourned to June 22, 2026, for commencement of trial, with the defendant to remain in custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.
