Tragedy struck in Gombe State as 16 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members lost their lives in a fatal road accident while traveling to their orientation camp. The victims, all graduates of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo State, were on board an 18-seater bus when the crash occurred, leaving only two survivors who are currently in critical condition.
The incident has sparked widespread grief and outrage, with many Nigerians calling for improved road safety measures and stricter regulations on transportation, especially for young graduates traveling to their NYSC camps.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has begun investigating the cause of the crash, but the incident has already raised concerns about the safety of NYSC mobilization procedures .
The NYSC management has yet to issue an official statement, but the incident has undoubtedly cast a dark shadow over the affected institution and the nation as a whole. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, and we hope that the survivors receive the medical attention they desperately need.
