.Bandits have abducted 20 farmers, including four pregnant women and several children, in Unguwan-Kawo, Erena Ward, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attack occurred around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26, while the victims were harvesting rice on their farmland, just 500 meters from Erena town, where a military camp is located ¹
This incident comes just six days after over 300 students, pupils, and staff were kidnapped from St. Mary Secondary and Primary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.
The Niger State Police Command has acknowledged the incident and is verifying the report to launch a rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the proximity of the attack to the military camp has raised concerns about security effectiveness in the area.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered a full-scale security cordon on forests in Kwara, Kebbi, and Niger States following renewed cases of kidnappings and terrorist incursions in the region . In a swift reaction, Niger State Governor, Umar Bago has called on community earlier before 300 school students abduction that community should strategically defend themselves, adding that the statement had triggered Bandits to attack.
