The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized the international passport of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, as part of an ongoing investigation into the whereabouts of $490 million Abacha loot secured through a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLAT) request.
Malami is required to report daily to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja for the next month and is barred from traveling outside the country unless permitted by the EFCC or a High Court.
The EFCC is investigating Malami’s role in the handling of the recovered Abacha loot and has asked him to explain the whereabouts of the funds. Malami has denied any wrongdoing, describing the allegations as “fabricated” and stating that the truth will soon unfold .
