The Kaduna State Government has announced a series of activities to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, with special prayers and an official parade highlighting the celebrations across the state.
The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, September 25, 2026, saying the programme reflects the significance of the anniversary as a moment for prayer, national reflection and renewed commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence.
According to the Commissioner, activities commence on Friday, September 25, with a special Juma’at Prayer at the Sultan Bello Mosque, Kaduna.
An Inter-denominational Church Service will follow on Sunday, September 27, at Living Faith Church, Barnawa Garden, Kaduna, where the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice will represent the Governor.
The celebrations will climax on Thursday, October 1, 2026, with the official Independence Anniversary Parade at Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna, beginning at 10:00 a.m., with the Governor of Kaduna State in attendance.
“As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, the occasion reminds us that the strength of our nation lies in our ability to live together in peace, respect our diversity and ensure that every citizen has a sense of belonging,” Maiyaki said.
“This significance resonates strongly with the peace and inclusion agenda of Governor Uba Sani’s administration in Kaduna State; strengthening dialogue, rebuilding trust and bringing communities together across ethnic, religious and other divides in the collective pursuit of peace and development.”
The Commissioner said the anniversary therefore provides an opportunity for the people of Kaduna State to reflect not only on Nigeria’s journey since independence but also on their shared responsibility to preserve peace and strengthen the bonds that unite communities.
“Independence carries both a privilege and a responsibility. As we celebrate our freedom and shared heritage, we must continue to choose dialogue over division, inclusion over exclusion and peaceful coexistence over conflict. These are values that remain central to Governor Uba Sani’s approach to governance,” Maiyaki added.
He invited residents to participate in the commemorative activities peacefully and responsibly and to continue praying for Kaduna State and Nigeria, particularly for sustained peace, security, stability and development.
