A Federal High Court sitting in Gombe has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to conduct a fresh governorship primary election in Gombe State.
Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed gave the order on Thursday while ruling on a suit filed by Usman Aliyu Garry, who challenged the emergence of Professor Isa Ali Pantami as the party’s candidate.
Garry had challenged Pantami’s emergence after the PDP announced him as its sole candidate on June 26, 2026, arguing that the primary election was not properly conducted.
Pantami, who was initially seeking the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), joined the PDP after the APC adopted Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna as its consensus candidate.
He later secured the PDP ticket through an affirmation during the party’s primary election held in May.
However, in its ruling, the court ordered the PDP to conduct another governorship primary in accordance with the party’s guidelines and relevant electoral laws.
The order was based on the process through which Pantami emerged as the PDP candidate, while further details of the court’s full judgment are expected.
