KADUNA — The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, has ushered in a new executive committee led by Muhammad Abdullahi, following the dissolution of the immediate past leadership at the chapter’s 2026 Annual General Meeting.
The event opened with a memorial lecture in honour of the late Adam Bashir Chedi, a respected public relations practitioner and mentor whose decades of contribution to the profession were remembered by members and stakeholders. Speakers at the session reflected on his commitment to mentoring younger professionals and his dedication to the development of public relations until his final moments.
The memorial session provided an opportunity for members to celebrate Chedi’s legacy and examine the values he represented, particularly professionalism, mentorship, discipline and service to the public relations community. His years of guidance were described as an enduring contribution that would continue to influence practitioners within and beyond Kaduna State.
Following the memorial lecture and other proceedings of the AGM, the tenure of the outgoing executive committee was formally brought to an end. The dissolution paved the way for the conduct of the chapter’s leadership election and the transition to a new administration.
The election process was conducted under the supervision of the chapter’s electoral committee, chaired by Mohammed Al-Nafati. With the various positions uncontested, members adopted the affirmation process, through which Muhammad Abdullahi emerged as chairman of the Kaduna State chapter.
Abdullahi, who is also the spokesman of the Northern Nigeria Development Companies Ltd, (NNDC) emerged alongside other members of the new executive committee. Asma’u Isiyaku Gwamna was elected as Welfare Executive, while Bassey Okon emerged Vice Chairman and Adeleke Sa’eed became Secretary.
Other members of the new executive include Zakari Jamilu Muhammad, Assistant Secretary; Latifah Isma’il, Public Relations Officer; Mercy Eyum, Financial Secretary; Nancy Awuni Audu, Treasurer; and Mohammed Shetima, Auditor. Abdul-Aziz Abdullahi was also elected Ex-Officio in accordance with the chapter’s constitutional provisions.
After the affirmation, the new executives took the oath of office administered by the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NIPR, Chief Uzoma Onyegbadue. The ceremony formally transferred responsibility for the affairs of the Kaduna chapter to Abdullahi and his team.
In his acceptance speech, Abdullahi thanked members for the confidence reposed in the new executive and pledged to lead with integrity, accountability and innovation. He identified member welfare, professional development, institutional strengthening and improved visibility as key priorities, while promising regular training programmes, networking opportunities and stronger engagement with relevant stakeholders.
The new chairman also appealed to members to support the administration by fulfilling their financial obligations, particularly payment of local and national dues. He said a financially stronger chapter would be better positioned to maintain its institutional independence and deliver meaningful services to members. Abdullahi further pledged to build on the achievements of the outgoing administration and position NIPR Kaduna as a stronger and more influential voice in public relations, while carrying forward the values of mentorship and professionalism associated with the late Chedi.
