The Kano State Government has indeed banned commercial motorcycle operations, known as Achaba, in several areas, including 9 Local Gover tonment Areas, due to security concerns. The ban, initially imposed in 2013, was reintroduced in 2017 and 2020 to address insecurity issues.
*Affected Areas:*
– Kano Municipal
– Gwale
– Dala
– Nassarawa
– Tarauni
– Ungogo (Jido)
– Dawakin Kudu (Tamburawa, Gurjiya, and Jido Ward)
– Fagge
– Kumbotso
The government has received intelligence reports of unknown individuals operating motorcycles as commercial riders in some parts of the metropolis, raising security concerns. Security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance and enforce the law diligently ¹ ² ³.
*Penalties for Violators:*
– Up to 6 months imprisonment
– Fine of ₦10,000
– Forfeiture of the motorcycle to the state
