Niger’s military regime has rolled out new security measures for anything coming from Nigeria.
All goods—especially those labeled “miscellaneous”—must now be off‑loaded and inspected at Niger’s entry points before they can move onward. Only shipments that carry proper paperwork from recognized ports of discharge are allowed to be unloaded at their final destination; otherwise they’re held for customs clearance.
The directive, signed by Colonel Mohamed Yacouba Siddo of the Customs Formalities Corporation, was issued after Burkina Faso detained 11 Nigerian military officers and seized a Nigerian Air Force cargo plane that had made an emergency landing in Burkinabe airspace. Niger says the extra checks are meant to address “security concerns” in the region. Officials have urged customs officers to enforce the rule strictly and report any difficulties .
So, traders and transporters now face an extra layer of inspection and documentation before Nigerian‑origin goods can enter Niger.
