Wow, that’s a huge shake‑up for NERC! President Bola Ahmed Tinubu just gave the green light to a brand‑new board after the Senate signed off on December 16. Here’s the crew that’s stepping in:
– *Musiliu Olalekan Oseni, PhD* – *Chairman*
He’s been with NERC since Jan 2017, first as a Commissioner and later as Vice‑Chairman. His chairmanship kicks off 1 Dec 2025 and runs for a full ten‑year term under the Electricity Act 2023.
– *Yusuf Ali, PhD* – *Vice‑Chairman*
Joined as a Commissioner in Feb 2022 and now takes the deputy spot from 1 Dec 2025 until his first term ends.
– *Nathan Rogers Shatti* – *Commissioner* (second term, first appointed Jan 2017)
– *Dafe Akpeneye* – *Commissioner* (second term, also first appointed Jan 2017)
– *Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello* – *Commissioner* (second term, first appointed Dec 2020)
– *Dr Chidi Ike* – *Commissioner* (first term, appointed Feb 2022)
– *Dr Fouad Animashaun* – *Commissioner* (first term, effective Dec 2025). He’s an energy economist who recently headed the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Tinubu charged them to “deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector” in line with the Electricity Act 2023 .
What do you think this means for the electricity landscape? Anything specific you’re curious about—maybe the reforms or the new chairman’s priorities?
