The Federal High Court in Abuja turned down Abubakar Malami’s request for bail, ruling that his detention by the EFCC is lawful.
Justice Babangida Hassan said the court can’t overturn a remand order issued by another FCT High Court, so the bail application was dismissed for lack of merit.
The EFCC had argued that Malami was held under a valid remand order from Justice Sylvanus Oriji and that the agency respects the constitutional limits on detention.
Malami’s lawyers had claimed the continued custody was illegal, but the judge held that the existing order gave the EFCC the authority to keep him pending further investigation.
Malami remains in EFCC custody while the probe into alleged money‑laundering, abuse of office and other charges continues.
