Rano residents have formally petitioned the Kano State government over the management of Rano Emirate Specialist Hospital.
The nine‑member committee—representing groups like Miyetti Allah Rano, NURTW Rano and the Isah Wali Initiative—accuses Zonal Director Dr Idris Ibn‑Garba of taking over the facility without a proper handover and of “disappearing” 538 items of medical equipment and supplies.
They also claim he converted the hospital’s eye centre into a personal residence, violating infection‑control rules and patient‑privacy standards.
Dr Garba has dismissed the allegations as baseless, saying his tenure upgraded the hospital and that he actually exposed a theft ring, and he’s been transferred to the board’s headquarters pending a review.
