Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, is investigating the sudden death of an 18-year-old Part Three student of the College of Health Sciences, Department of Medicine and Surgery.
The student, Timilehin Adetoye Toromade, matriculation number CLI/2022/133, reportedly died in his sleep in the early hours of Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, Toromade was last seen around 2 a.m. when he opened the door for a roommate.
He was later discovered unresponsive in his room, prompting immediate attention from fellow students.
The university management confirmed that it is working closely with relevant authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the death, in line with standard medical procedures.
No further details have been released about the cause of death, pending investigation.
While the campus reels from the shocking incident, the university has assured that measures are being put in place to support students and staff affected by the occurrence.
The management urged the university community to remain calm and cooperative as investigations continue.
