There are growing speculations of a possible political alignment between factions loyal to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and supporters of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
Sources familiar with political developments in the state say that some reconciliation moves are being observed between both camps, raising questions about a possible new political alliance in Kano ahead of future elections.
According to the sources, some supporters of Aminu Ado Bayero are reportedly considering backing the governorship ambition of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the gubernatorial candidate of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, in Kano State.
The report further claims that there are ongoing discussions that if Gwarzo wins the governorship election, there is an arrangement to reinstate Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano.
Speculations about the alleged alliance intensified following comments attributed to the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, regarding politics and how government should handle its opposition.
In a related development, during an interview between Aminu Babba Dan’agundi and journalist Yakubu Musa Fagge, Dan’agundi was heard praising Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
However, despite the commendation, Dan’agundi did not openly declare the position of his camp on the possibility of supporting Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo’s candidacy.
Political analysts say if the alliance is confirmed, it would represent a new twist in Kano politics, as it would bring together groups that previously held divergent political positions.
As at the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from Aminu Ado Bayero, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo or Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso confirming any such agreement or alliance.
