Rabiu Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has alleged that public officials and appointees in Kano State are being pressured to endorse Governor Abba Yusuf’s planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwaso claimed that officials, including lawmakers, chairmen, and councillors, are being forced to choose between the Kwankwasiyya movement and the Gandujiyya faction (APC), with some reportedly experiencing severe emotional distress, sleepless nights, and even hospitalization.
Kwankwaso advised those being pressured to sign documents endorsing the defection to do so to ease the pressure, emphasizing that the battle for 2027 is still ahead. The NNPP, however, has denied reports that Kwankwaso endorsed Yusuf’s defection, labeling such claims as “wicked lies”.
