The Family of a 15 Years Old Girl, Ummi Tambaya from Kano State have raised the alarm after some youths kidnapped and allegedly connieved with a shari’a commander to forcefully convert their daughter to Islam from Christianity.
Ummi a native of Kadafa Bari District, Rogo L.G.A Kano State went missing since 1st December after a young Muslim man from the village who has been asking for her hand in marriage despite the family’s refusal was accused of abducting her but initially denied knowing her whereabouts.
According to Pastor Kabiru Usman who is familiar with the case, “after a long search and relentless efforts, we discovered the girl has been kept under the custody of the Hisbah Commander of Rogo, Malam Sani that she wants to convert to Islam.
“Close persons to the Hisbah Commander revealed that Abba Sheshu, Mansir Surajo and one Tasi,u Bello were the persons who abducted her for a whole month despite her mental illness and prevented her from seeking medical help”
Usman further revealed that despite the interventions of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Rogo, Suleiman Ibrahim and the vilege district head name Umar Abdulkadir, the Hisbah Commander refused to produce the said girl.
Kabiru further lamented how the Department of State Services (DSS) office in the area remained indifferent towards the case and rather than rendering help, an officer, one Abdulrashid Muhammad Abubakar collected the sum of Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000) from a member of the family to be used for fueling of the vehicle from the State Headquarters.
“It will surprise the public to know that the DSS in the state have refused to act on this matter. In fact, one of their officers in the Local Government collected money up to N20,000 that officers from the headquarters needed it to buy fuel”.
“We are appealing to relevant authorities to come to our aid. The family of Ummi are traumatized, we don’t know her present condition and we are afraid the culprits will escape this because we have had five other similar cases of forceful conversions of our girls in the area.
“They lied to us that Ummi was with Human rights, it was a lie. The Hisbah Commander is fully aware of her whereabouts. Let those concerned come to our aid”, he pleads for help.
