Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and his estranged political mentor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, recently tested their popularity at Singer Market in Kano.
They separately visited the market to sympathize with traders affected by a devastating fire incident.
Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), received a warm welcome, with supporters chanting “Kano sai Kwankwaso” and waving enthusiastically.
Similarly, Governor Yusuf also got a positive reception, promising government intervention and financial support to affected traders dole out 100 million.
The visits highlighted the ongoing political tensions between Yusuf and Kwankwaso, especially after Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Kwankwaso’s influence in Kano politics remains strong, with many supporters expressing loyalty and admiration .
