The Argungu Fishing Festival kicked off with a bang, recording a massive 59kg catch, the largest so far in this year’s competition!
The 61st edition of the festival, which began on Saturday at Mata Fada in Argungu town, Kebbi State, attracted thousands of fishermen, tourists, and culture lovers from across Nigeria and beyond. President Bola Tinubu officially opened the festival, which features fishing competitions, traditional music and dance, wrestling, arts and crafts exhibitions, and other cultural activities.
The festival, which dates back to 1934, is a celebration of peace between the Sokoto Caliphate and the Kebbi Kingdom, and has evolved into a globally recognized cultural spectacle. Senator Aliyu Wammakko who was among those who grace the occasion at grand finale, described the historical event as highly impressive saying if give International attention, the event would go a long way in supporting Kebbi economic potentials. Urged state to use the opportunity of the event and introduce such to generate and promote rich culture of the North.
Meanwhile, the colourful event has attract international recognition.
