Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is currently being detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of misappropriating N432 billion in public funds during his tenure from 2015 to 2023.
The EFCC investigation stems from a 2024 report by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which accused El-Rufai’s administration of diverting public funds through multiple state channels.
The allegations include:
– *Misappropriation of Loans*: The Kaduna State House of Assembly’s ad-hoc committee alleged that several loans obtained by the state were either misapplied or diverted.
– *Contract Violations*: The committee also accused El-Rufai’s administration of awarding contracts without due process.
– *Money Laundering*: Senior officials are alleged to have laundered N64.8 million.
– *Diversion of Funds*: N1.37 billion earmarked for a light rail project was allegedly diverted.
El-Rufai has denied the allegations, claiming they are politically motivated. He was arrested after honoring an EFCC invitation and is expected to face charges related to cybercrime and unlawful interception of phone communications.
Similarly, the heavy fight has taken new dimensions with stakeholders described both Uba Sani and Ex Governor Nasiru El-rufai as birds of the same feather.
Elrufai, anointed Senator Uba Sani to be his stooge, later the two that stayed long as evils deed. Now worst friends. Shehu Sani ex- lawmaker has called for probe of the (8)years of Nasiru and further alleged probe right of many during his tenure as governor.
