The Kano State Hisbah Board arrested nine Muslims, including seven men and two women, for eating in public on the first day of Ramadan, violating the state’s fasting rules. The board’s deputy commander, Mujahid Aminudeen, stated that the suspects will be taught the importance of fasting, prayer, and Quran study before release.
In a related development, the Kano State government has shut down entertainment centers, including gala houses and DJ operators, for the duration of Ramadan. The Censorship Board warned that violators will face sanctions, emphasizing the need for a peaceful environment during the holy month .
The Hisbah Board has also imposed restrictions on tricycle operators, banning them from wearing three-quarter trousers, playing loud music, and mixing male and female passengers. Operators found violating these rules will face prosecution.
