The Court of Appeal has affirmed the conviction and sentencing of former Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL), Maj.-Gen. Umar Mohammed, for stealing and misappropriating company funds.
The appellate court dismissed Mohammed’s appeal, challenging the authority of the Nigerian Army’s Special Court Martial and the legitimacy of its decision.
Mohammed was earlier convicted by the Special Court Martial on October 10, 2023, for offences bordering on stealing and criminal misappropriation of funds belonging to NAPL.
He was sentenced to imprisonment, dismissed from the Nigerian Army, and ordered to refund $2,099,700 and N1.65 billion to the company.
The Court of Appeal’s ruling, delivered on March 9, 2026, found Mohammed’s defence inconsistent and unreliable, citing contradictions in his testimony.
The court also noted that the evidence presented during the court martial clearly established the offences.
