A security operative attached to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has lost his life following a disturbance during the distribution of Ramadan relief materials in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano.
The incident occurred on Friday during a community outreach programme organised to provide food items and other support to residents observing the fasting period of Ramadan.
According to local sources, the situation turned chaotic when unidentified individuals reportedly attempted to disrupt the aid distribution, leading to a confrontation that resulted in the death of the officer.
The programme was facilitated by Alhassan Ado Doguwa, who represents the Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
In a statement released after the incident, the lawmaker described the development as deeply tragic and extended condolences to the family of the deceased officer, the Civil Defence Corps, and residents of the affected community.
He called on relevant authorities to launch a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that those responsible for the violence are identified and prosecuted.
The lawmaker also warned against the spread of misleading reports circulating on social media linking him directly to the altercation, stating that legal action could be pursued to protect his reputation.
Despite the disruption, the outreach programme was part of a broader effort aimed at providing humanitarian assistance to vulnerable households during the Ramadan and Sallah season.
