
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the merger of the Ministry of Higher Education with the Ministry of Education, effectively axing Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo’s ministry.
This move aims to strengthen coordination and accelerate reforms in the state’s education sector.
The merger will create a unified Ministry of Education, with a specialized Directorate of Higher Education overseeing tertiary education activities.
The directorate will be headed by a Permanent Secretary and supported by relevant personnel. Agencies previously under the Ministry of Higher Education, including the Scholarship Board, will return to the Ministry of Education.
Governor Yusuf stated that the reform is designed to reduce governance costs, enhance efficiency, and improve education quality.
The move is part of ongoing education sector reforms aimed at eliminating duplication of responsibilities and improving policy coordination.
