Former Attorney General Abubakar Malami SAN has formally secured the African Democratic Congress ADC governorship nomination form for the 2027 Kebbi State election.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi on May 9, 2026, he said he could no longer remain silent while the state sinks deeper into insecurity, poverty, educational collapse, and economic hardship.
Malami said Kebbi is facing one of the worst humanitarian and governance crises in Nigeria.
He highlighted education as the most urgent failure, stating that over 67 percent of children between ages 6 and 15 are out of school. The state’s school attendance rate, he added, remains among the lowest in the country.
The situation is worse for younger children, according to Malami. He noted that more than 88 percent of children in Kebbi live in multidimensional poverty, and hundreds of severely malnourished children reportedly died within nine months in 2025 alone.
On healthcare, he said maternal mortality remains among the highest in Nigeria. Malaria continues to devastate children under five, while thousands of pregnant women in rural communities have no access to proper antenatal care.
He also raised alarm over insecurity across the state. Communities are under constant attacks from bandits, citizens are being kidnapped for ransom, farmers are abandoning their lands, and businesses are collapsing under fear and uncertainty.
In response, Malami declared a State of Emergency on Misgovernance in Kebbi State. His plan includes restoring security, rebuilding public education, strengthening healthcare delivery, reviving agriculture, and creating opportunities for young people.
Malami said his decision to contest is driven by responsibility and commitment to service, accountability, and sustainable development. He stressed that the era of empty propaganda and ineffective leadership must come to an end.
He called on the people of Kebbi to join the effort to rebuild a safer and more prosperous state, vowing that there would be no retreat and no surrender in the struggle to rescue Kebbi.
