…Atiku Aide revealed..

By our reporter in Abuja
President Bola Tinubu’s decision to replace National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has sparked controversy, with allegations linking the move to Ribadu’s recent meetings with US officials.
Atiku Abubakar’s aide, Paul Ibe, claims Ribadu’s high-profile meetings with US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio may have been seen as a “final straw” by the presidency.
The public display of international diplomacy by Ribadu was reportedly viewed unfavorably, especially given President Tinubu’s own travel constraints regarding the US.
Ribadu was replaced with Retired Major General Adeyinka Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, raising questions about the future role and influence of the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Some observers speculate that the move may be an attempt to bypass Ribadu’s authority or even replace him. The presidency and the Office of the National Security Adviser have not officially responded to the allegations.
Ribadu’s appointment as NSA was initially seen as a strategic move, given his experience in fighting corruption and his international network. His meetings with US officials were part of efforts to address security concerns and improve relations.
The controversy has sparked debate about the role of the NSA and the influence of external factors on Nigeria’s security decisions. Some argue that Ribadu’s removal undermines Nigeria’s security efforts, while others see it as a necessary move to consolidate power.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged President Tinubu to replace Ribadu if he lacks confidence in him, rather than creating a parallel office. The party criticized the creation of the Special Adviser on Homeland Security position as unnecessary and ineffective.
Ribadu’s supporters argue that his removal is a setback for Nigeria’s security and anti-corruption efforts. They point to his successful track record in fighting corruption and improving security cooperation with international partners.
The development has added another layer to ongoing political conversations around internal power dynamics within the Tinubu administration, ahead of the 2027 political season.
