Hundreds of women supporters of Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, popularly known as AA Zaura, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), staged a solidarity march in Kano, demanding fair political opportunity for him ahead of the 2027 elections.
The women, under the banner of AA Zaura Women Mobilisation Forum, marched through major streets in Kano metropolis, chanting “No Zaura, no vote” and carrying placards with inscriptions like “Justice for AA Zaura” and “Kano women stand with Zaura”.
Addressing journalists, the group’s coordinator, Binta Rabiu Zaura, stated that the women were demanding fairness and recognition for Zaura’s contributions to the party and the people of Kano. She emphasized that Zaura has empowered thousands of youths and women across the state through humanitarian and business support initiatives.
The march was in response to Zaura’s claim that his ambition to contest for the Kano Central Senatorial seat was taken away from him against his wish. The protesters appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC national leaders to intervene and ensure a transparent and inclusive process.
The rally comes amid growing political tension within the Kano APC, following the emergence of former governor Ibrahim Shekarau as consensus candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial ticket.
Zaura has received several awards and recognitions for his philanthropic work, including the Leadership Excellence Award from the Kano Concerned Citizens Movement (KCCM). ³ ⁴
