The Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State, Hon. Lawan Najume Kabo, has dismissed the Secretary of the council and four other appointed officials over their alleged membership of a political support group associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
The affected officials were reportedly relieved of their appointments after allegations emerged that they had joined the Tinubu Maliya Shonikan support group, a political movement believed to be promoting the political interests of President Tinubu and Senator Barau ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to sources within the local government, the chairman viewed the officials’ involvement in the group as incompatible with the political direction of the Kabo Local Government administration, prompting the decision to terminate their appointments.Although the council has yet to issue a detailed official statement explaining the reasons behind the dismissals, the development has generated widespread reactions among political stakeholders and residents of the area.
Supporters of the chairman argued that political appointees are expected to remain loyal to the administration that appointed them, maintaining that any action perceived as undermining the government’s political interests could attract disciplinary measures.
However, critics have questioned the decision, describing it as politically motivated and expressing concerns over the growing tension within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
Political observers believe the incident reflects the deepening realignments and power struggle within the APC in Kano, particularly as politicians and support groups begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
