As political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election gathered more momentum in Gombe State, Media Aide to Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, has stressed that elections are ultimately decided by voters at polling units, not by popularity on social media platforms.
He said that while online engagement remains important, the mandate to governed can only be secured through the confidence and votes of the people.
In a statement dated August 12, 2026, Shawai noted that platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok have transformed political communication by expanding public engagement and increasing visibility.
However, he argued that online trends, likes, reposts and comments should not be mistaken for electoral strength, emphasizing that votes are cast by citizens in communities across Gombe State rather than by social media audiences.
According to him, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, the Sardaunan Gombe, has deliberately focused his political engagement on the people of Gombe because they are the ones whose mandate he seeks.
He said Gwamna’s relationship with communities across the state did not begin with preparations for the 2027 election but has been built over more than two decades through public service, corporate experience, philanthropy and sustained community engagement.
Shawai added that the focus of the political conversation should now shift from questioning who Dr. Gwamna is to examining his vision for the future of Gombe State.
He said issues such as job creation, agriculture, education, healthcare, investment, technology, economic growth and efficient governance should dominate public discourse as the state prepares for the next governorship election, while reiterating that grassroots support remains the foundation of electoral victory.
