Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has warned against violence and lawlessness during the upcoming primary elections, saying those involved will face severe consequences. In a statewide broadcast, Yahaya emphasized the importance of peaceful elections, citing the stability of Gombe State as a priority.
The governor noted that the Electoral Act of 2026 requires parties to conduct primaries via direct primaries or consensus, and urged stakeholders to put Gombe’s interest first. He highlighted the state’s history of relative peace and stability, attributing it to collective vigilance and adherence to the rule of law.
Yahaya’s administration will work with security agencies to ensure peaceful elections, he said. The governor also thanked the public for their support and prayers, urging unity to prevent conflict and discord.
The APC had attempted consensus but will proceed with direct primaries due to disagreements among aspirants, Yahaya said, adding that this is “democracy at work”. He emphasized zero tolerance for violence and lawlessness, warning that anyone implicated will face legal consequences.
