Ambassador Faruk Malami Yabo, ADC senatorial candidate for Sokoto South, has praised Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for stepping down in his favor, calling it a rare act of statesmanship.
Yabo, a former Nigerian Ambassador to Jordan, described Tambuwal’s decision as a significant sacrifice aimed at strengthening opposition politics and giving the electorate a credible alternative.
“I must extend my profound gratitude to Senator Tambuwal for deciding to withdraw for me,” Yabo said. “What happened generated a lot of headlines across the country.”
Yabo initially questioned the decision, considering Tambuwal’s massive political stature and contributions to Sokoto State and the nation. “Replacing Senator Tambuwal is like filling a very big shoe,” he said.
Tambuwal’s political journey includes serving as Speaker of the House, two-term governor, and senator. Yabo and Tambuwal joined the PDP in 2023, driven by a shared vision for Sokoto State’s development.
Yabo accused the ruling APC of undermining democratic institutions and destabilizing opposition parties. He cited worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and infrastructure deficits as evidence of APC’s failures.
The ADC coalition is a response to APC’s attempt to impose a one-party state on Nigeria, Yabo said. “Monopoly under democracy is unacceptable; it’s autocracy.”
Opposition parties are being systematically infiltrated and weakened, Yabo alleged. He vowed to confront APC’s absolute control.
